IBNS Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion

Actions IBNS is taking to promote diversity, equity, inclusion and antiracism

  • All meeting participants must agree to a Code of Conduct to ensure a safe and inclusive environment for all.

  • To encourage our trainee members to participate in diversity and inclusion efforts, the travel awardee application process has been updated with an additional section where applicants describe the ways in which they have made efforts or plan to make future efforts to promote diversity and inclusion, with regards to culture, ethnicity, gender identity or expression, national origin, physical or mental difference, politics, race, religion, sex, sexual orientation, socio-economic status, and/or subculture.

  • To improve diversity in symposia, those submitting proposals are now required to provide diversity information on their speakers with regards to gender, sexuality, race, ethnicity, nationality, professional seniority, institution type, etc.

  • At each yearly IBNS meeting, the Ethics and Diversity committee will hold strategy sessions for improving diversity and inclusion in neuroscience, typically this will be a luncheon.

  • IBNS is increasing recruitment efforts to improve the diversity of participants in the annual meeting by recruiting underrepresented groups and neuroscientists from countries that are typically underrepresented at the meeting.

  • Two members of the Ethics and Diversity sit on every other IBNS committee and serve as liaisons to ensure there is a focus on diversity and inclusion throughout the organization.
